Tracking Human Eye and Clicking Patterns on Web Pages
There is a reason why we track human eye patterns on web sites, when a user first enters a web site we have 3 to 4 seconds to capture their attention and draw their eyes to your key message.
On our example on the right; the xodMedia.com home page, the majority of users go to the top right and read the latest news before any other area.
This is done by contrasting the black background and bright, yellow / gold text.
Eye's then move to the left and view the boxes surrounded by white space. Another technique in highlighting key areas is using a lot of white space to create separation.
To capture eye movements, specialized hardware like the Tobii T60 XL Eye Tracker, a high end monitor with eye trackers built right into the monitor, is needed.
Coupled with eye tracking hardware and software, a group of 5 to 10 peopleare gathered from your target market. They'll be asked a series of questions directing users to find certain information.
The idea is to ensure key messages are put in the right area and information is placed in the correct navigation pattern.
If people can't find your information easily, they'll leave go find the next quick answer.
